We are excited to introduce new products and services funded by the Medicaid 1115 waiver effective January 2025.
NYHER Asthma Remediation Services help make homes safer for people with asthma. We work to find and fix things in the home that can trigger asthma, like dust, mold, or other allergens. Our team may also provide helpful products to lower or remove these triggers.
Every service is customized to fit the person’s needs and their home, whether they own it or rent it.
Our goal is to help people with asthma in Staten Island breathe easier, feel better, and enjoy a healthier life with their families.
These services are free for eligible medicaid recipients, fully funded under the 1115 Waiver:
Air Sealing – helps prevent outdoor pollutants, allergens, and moisture from entering the home. By sealing gaps, cracks, and leaks, it reduces dust, mold growth, and humidity — all major asthma triggers. A tighter home also supports better temperature control and cleaner indoor air, helping residents breathe easier and prevents pests from entering the house.

Minor Mold Remediation – removes mold growth caused by moisture buildup in areas like bathrooms, basements, and around windows. Mold spores are a common asthma trigger that can irritate the lungs and worsen symptoms. This service safely cleans and treats affected areas to prevent regrowth, improving overall respiratory health.
Carpet Steam Cleaning – deep cleans carpets to remove trapped dust mites, pet dander, pollen, and other asthma triggers that regular vacuuming can’t reach. The use of hot steam disinfects and sanitizes without harsh chemicals, leaving the home’s air fresher and healthier for individuals with asthma or allergies.

Who is eligible for Asthma Remediation Services?

- be a Medicaid recipient who has a health condition that is exacerbated by the individual’s physical living
- be a Medicaid recipient who has a diagnosis of asthma and has had ONE of the following in the last 12 months:
- 1 or more hospital stays for asthma, or
- 2 or more emergency room visits for asthma, or
- 3 or more urgent care visits for asthma, or
- 2 or more times taking oral steroids for asthma, or
- 3–11 prescriptions for a rescue inhaler (like albuterol).
